At St Benedict’s Church, Atherstone, we are proud to support the Chinthowa Development Trust, a small charity with a big heart, born from our parish community and dedicated to bringing hope and opportunity to the people of Chinthowa, Malawi.

What began as a caring response to the AIDS crisis and famine at the start of this century has grown into a lasting friendship with 14 villages, walking together toward self-sufficiency and dignity.

The Trust is run entirely by volunteers, there are no salaries or expenses paid which means every donation goes directly to the projects in Malawi.

In 2012, a dream became reality when the Trust built a school for 400 children. Today, that same school welcomes more than 1,800 pupils. Each child receives a hot meal every day, along with stationery, and for the poorest families, school uniforms and other essentials.   Our support continues beyond primary school, helping students progress through secondary education and even college or university, giving young people the chance to build better lives for themselves and their communities.

Together with local families, the Trust also runs agricultural projects that help improve food security and respond to the challenges of climate change.   These community-led schemes are helping families grow stronger and more resilient in a changing world.

The Chinthowa Development Trust is much more than a charity it’s a partnership of faith, friendship, and shared hope, rooted in the love and generosity of our parish.
